Adopta un Hogar Will Donate 100 Homes to Support the Reconstruction of Caldas. The Governor’s Office Will Provide the Labor
5 October 2026- Initially, the housing solutions will focus on families affected in Chinchiná, although the intervention may be extended to other municipalities based on census data and territorial prioritization.
- The homes are part of Adopta un Hogar’s nationwide commitment to provide 1,000 housing solutions: 500 in Chocó, 235 in Valle del Cauca, 100 in Risaralda, 100 in Caldas, 40 in Quindío, and 25 in Antioquia.
- Adopta un Hogar has already delivered its first two homes in the country: one in Quibdó, Chocó, and another in Ciudad Bolívar, Antioquia.
Adopta un Hogar, the initiative led by Grupo Argos and Nicky Jam to contribute to housing reconstruction following the August 10 earthquake, will donate 100 homes to affected families in Caldas. The Government of Caldas will join the effort by providing the labor required for construction.
Initially, the interventions are expected to focus on Chinchiná, one of the municipalities affected by the earthquake. However, other municipalities may also be prioritized based on census data and the circumstances of the families identified.
“The commitment is very clear: the 100 homes that will be built in Caldas are a donation from Adopta un Hogar, the initiative led by Grupo Argos and Nicky Jam. The Government of Caldas is contributing the labor needed to make their construction possible. This effort complements our reconstruction strategy and allows us to combine capabilities to deliver concrete housing solutions to affected families.”
Henry Gutiérrez Ángel, Governor of Caldas
The announcement comes in a department where housing recovery remains one of the main challenges following the earthquake. Departmental census data records nearly 22,000 homes with some degree of damage, of which at least 2,989 houses and buildings were completely destroyed, according to information from the Government of Caldas.
The departmental administration is also making progress on other recovery fronts, including a Materials Bank to support homes with repairable damage, temporary rental subsidies, and the structuring of resources for housing, educational infrastructure, and healthcare. The department also presented its assessment and reconstruction roadmap to Fondo Milagro.
“We continue to make progress with Adopta un Hogar in Colombia’s Coffee Region. In this case, the Government of Caldas approached us, and we are building an alliance through which it can contribute the labor required to construct the homes. This model allows each stakeholder to contribute a specific capability to turn solidarity into completed homes, in coordination with the National Government, the Ministry of Housing, Fondo Milagro, and local authorities.”
María Camila Villegas, Executive Director of Grupo Argos Foundation
The announced housing solutions are part of the commitment made by Grupo Argos and Nicky Jam to provide 1,000 homes for families affected by the earthquake.
The planned distribution includes 500 homes in Chocó; 235 in Valle del Cauca; 100 in Risaralda; 100 in Caldas; 40 in Quindío; and 25 in Antioquia. In Caldas, the process of identifying beneficiary families will move forward through technical and territorial coordination, allowing census data to be cross-checked, each household’s specific circumstances to be assessed, properties to be validated, and construction fronts to be progressively organized.
The initiative is being implemented in coordination with the National Government, the Ministry of Housing, Fondo Milagro, departmental and municipal governments, and local authorities, with the aim of ensuring that the different reconstruction efforts complement one another and concentrate capabilities in the areas of greatest need.
