Adopta un Hogar Delivered Its First Home in Antioquia

• The initiative led by Grupo Argos and Nicky Jam committed to building 1,000 homes for families affected by the August 10 earthquake in Antioquia, Caldas, Chocó, Quindío, Risaralda, and Valle del Cauca.
• Luz Ofelia Romero and her family, residents of Alto de los Jaramillos, a rural community in Ciudad Bolívar, received the keys to their new home this Thursday.
• More than 6,200 people and 200 companies have joined the initiative, contributing more than COP 7.1 billion.

Today, Luz Ofelia Romero and her family, residents of Alto de los Jaramillos in Ciudad Bolívar, Antioquia, received the first home delivered by Adopta un Hogar in the department. The delivery is part of Grupo Argos and Nicky Jam’s commitment to build 1,000 homes so that families affected by the August 10 earthquake can once again have a place to call home. The keys were presented by the Governor of Antioquia, Andrés Julián Rendón; the President of Grupo Argos, Juan Esteban Calle; and Guillermo Arcila, the National Federation of Coffee Growers’ Manager appointed to lead reconstruction efforts in the affected areas.

One month after the earthquake, this marks the second home delivered by Adopta un Hogar in Colombia and is part of the 1,000 homes that will be built across the western region of the country: 500 in Chocó, 235 in Valle del Cauca, 100 in Risaralda, 100 in Caldas, 40 in Quindío, and 25 in Antioquia.

We will continue working alongside the National Government, local authorities, communities, and all the companies and citizens who have chosen to contribute their capabilities to Colombia’s reconstruction, as we work to deliver the 1,000 homes we committed to building.”

Designed using an industrialized, earthquake-resistant construction model, the home features a steel-frame system and draws on the experience of Casa para Mí, the social housing model that Grupo Argos has refined over more than eight years. The construction also received support from volunteers across Grupo Empresarial Argos, who contributed their time and labor to help make this new home a reality.

The design of the home began with an assessment and engagement process with the family to gain a firsthand understanding of their needs, daily routines, and the characteristics of their surroundings. Ofelia lives with her two children and grandchildren in a coffee-growing household that sells its crop within the department. For this reason, the home incorporates a design adapted to support the family’s productive activities.

The beneficiary families were identified through a coordinated process involving the Government of Antioquia, the Mayor’s Office of Ciudad Bolívar, and the relevant authorities, cross-referencing census data with the specific circumstances of each household. This process is complemented by the support of Proantioquia, Red Pro, and social organizations with extensive knowledge of the affected communities, helping ensure that prioritization is based on both technical and social criteria.
