Works begin to fully enable Ciudad Mallorquín’s road network

14 May 2026
  • The works will begin this Thursday, May 14, during overnight shifts from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • The project includes the installation of 326 traffic signs and more than 1,000 raised pavement markers to control speed, as well as speed bumps to maintain road safety.
  • The works, which include changing the direction of some roads in Ciudad Mallorquín, are being carried out as part of this development’s Transportation Model. In addition to fully enabling the road network, they will help improve safety and traffic flow in the area.
  • The intervention is the result of coordinated work among the Ciudad Mallorquín Community Action Board, the Puerto Colombia Transit Secretariat, Grupo Argos, and the community.

With the purpose of improving mobility, strengthening road safety, and optimizing coexistence in public spaces, signaling works and final adjustments to Ciudad Mallorquín’s road network have begun.

The interventions will begin this Thursday, May 14, during overnight shifts from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., in order to minimize impacts on the community’s daily mobility. The works include the installation of 326 traffic signs and more than 1,000 speed reducers, as well as road markings and the implementation of new traffic directions on different streets and avenues within the urban development.

This process is being carried out in coordination with the Ciudad Mallorquín Community Action Board (JAC), the Puerto Colombia Transit Secretariat, and Grupo Argos’ Urban Development Business, as part of a joint strategy to consolidate a safer, more organized, and more efficient environment for all residents.

“We are pleased with this final stage of works to enable the entire road circuit of our neighborhood, a phase in which we must all contribute by avoiding parking on the roads and using the designated bays in the park, so that the works can move forward for the benefit of the nearly 5,000 families that today bring Ciudad Mallorquín to life,” said Sergio Lobelo, leader of the Ciudad Mallorquín Community Action Board (JAC).

“We have all the capabilities of the Puerto Colombia Transit Secretariat available so that the works can be completed according to schedule, in coordination with the community, Grupo Argos, and the contractors in charge of the works, and so that we can continue contributing to the consolidation of Ciudad Mallorquín as a true urban benchmark for Puerto Colombia, Barranquilla, and Atlántico,” said Ofelia Murillo, Secretary of Transit and Transportation of Puerto Colombia.

“These works represent an important step in the development of Ciudad Mallorquín and demonstrate compliance with what was established in its planning, in this case regarding roads and connectivity with its area of influence. The implementation of signage and the organization of traffic directions will help strengthen circulation, increase safety for pedestrians and drivers, and foster coexistence in the territory,” said Andrés Carbonell, Senior Infrastructure Leader of Grupo Argos’ Urban Development Business.

To date, in addition to the roads, two road returns have been built on Carrera 53, and the 14 entrances and exits of the urban development have been enabled, most of which are currently in operation.

New traffic directions

As part of the interventions, adjustments will be made to the orientation of roads in the area:

Roads that will remain two-way

• Carrera 20
• Carrera 21
• Calle 2
• Calle 1A
• Calle 1B

Roads that will be adjusted to one-way traffic flow

• Carrera 22 by lane
• Carrera 22A
• Calle 1E
• Calle 1D
• Calle 1C

Additionally, some internal roads within the residential stages will have one-way and two-way directions defined through horizontal and vertical signage, which will be duly communicated to the community during the execution of the works.

Recommendations for the community

To facilitate the progress of the activities and avoid delays in the installation of signs and road markings, residents and visitors are encouraged to:

  • Use the designated parking bays.
  • Avoid parking vehicles on Ciudad Mallorquín’s internal roads.
  • Respect the temporary signage installed during the overnight shifts.
  • Follow the instructions of logistics and transit staff, as well as Puerto Colombia mobility officers.

The works will take between two and three weeks and will help consolidate a more organized, safe, and efficient road system for the entire Ciudad Mallorquín community.
