In a new milestone for the development of social infrastructure in Colombia, Grupo Argos has completed the legal closing and resource transfer for five projects approved under the Works for Taxes mechanism for the 2024 fiscal year. The operation mobilizes a total of COP 245 billion, of which COP 83 billion were contributed by Grupo Argos companies, while the remaining COP 162 billion were provided by 21 business groups representing 32 companies: Banafrut, Greenland, Microplast-Coldeplast, Uniban, Grupo Bios, Smartfit, Clínica Zona Franca Urabá, Grupo Cibest, Grupo EPM, Grupo Corbeta, Grupo Nutresa, C.I. Tropical, Haceb, Cabot, Alico, Dexco, Consultoría y Gestión Digital ZOMAC, Bioplanta Palmera para el Desarrollo, Inversora Fundación Grupo Social, Alternativa de Moda, Seguros Generales Suramericana, and Mineros.
Thanks to this joint effort, Grupo Argos helped mobilize nearly 25% of the total quota approved by Confis at the national level, making it the leading driving force behind the mechanism in 2024.
“Mobilizing 25% of the national Works for Taxes quota in 2024 is a clear demonstration of the private sector’s genuine commitment to the country. This mechanism allows us to translate taxation into concrete solutions for the most vulnerable communities. Schools, aqueducts, and roads are not just figures — they represent tangible changes in the lives of thousands of people.”

Director of Technical Advisory, Cementos Argos
The approved projects will have a positive impact on vulnerable communities in the municipalities of Turbo, Nechí, Amalfi, and El Bagre in the department of Antioquia, through initiatives that improve access to basic services, road connectivity, and educational quality. These include:
- Sewer system in Nueva Colonia, Turbo – COP 112 billion
- Río Grande Educational Institution, Turbo – COP 14 billion
- Road improvement from Colorado to Nechí – COP 43 billion
- Road improvement from Amalfi to the village of Chorritos – COP 36 billion
- Reconstruction of El Bagre Educational Institution – COP 38 billion
Since 2019, Grupo Argos, its businesses, and a group of allies have led an ambitious agenda to strengthen the Works for Taxes mechanism as a vehicle for accelerating regional development. To date, this alliance has mobilized more than COP 350 billion across 33 projects, directly benefiting over 400,000 people in Areas Most Affected by the Armed Conflict (ZOMAC) and municipalities with Territorial Development Programs (PDET).
This initiative is coordinated through the Mesa de Obras por Impuestos, a collaborative platform led by Grupo Argos, Bancolombia, and Proantioquia. It stands as a clear example of how the alignment of private-sector efforts can bring about meaningful and sustainable transformation in the country’s most underserved regions.
