Accenture recognized Jorge Mario Velásquez, President of Grupo Argos, for his career and legacy during the launch of The Reinvention Community

During the launch of The Reinvention Community, an Accenture initiative, Jorge Mario Velásquez, President of Grupo Argos, received a recognition honoring his career and legacy in advancing Colombian business development and strengthening the country’s infrastructure. The distinction underscored the importance of public-private collaboration to accelerate competitiveness and productivity, and highlighted the legacy he has built over 42 years of professional experience in pursuit of that purpose.

The event took place in Medellín as part of an agenda that brought together business and industry leaders to foster dialogue on aligning efforts and mobilizing national-scale projects that advance the country’s progress.

Jorge Mario Velásquez is a civil engineer from the Escuela de Ingeniería de Antioquia (EIA), with executive education from Kellogg, Stanford, and the School of Government at Universidad de los Andes, as well as specialized training in the cement industry in England. He has spent more than 40 years within Grupo Empresarial Argos, holding leadership roles at Cementos Argos, including Vice President for the Caribbean region and Vice President of Logistics. In 2012, he became President of Cementos Argos, leading a period of significant growth and international expansion that consolidated the company as the leading Colombian investor in the United States. On April 1, 2016, he assumed the role of President of Grupo Argos and has since driven strategic milestones such as the monetization of the organization’s investment in the United States, Celsia’s expansion into power distribution in Tolima and its commitment to renewables, Odinsa’s focus on road and airport concessions, along with its partnership with Macquarie Asset Management, and the simplification of Grupo Argos’ shareholding structure.

This recognition adds to other recent milestones in his career, including an award from Cámara Colombiana de Infraestructura for his trajectory and contribution to the country’s competitiveness, as well as Forbes’ CEO of the Year distinction, which highlighted his strategic leadership and his ability to guide complex organizations toward transformation, efficiency, and stronger institutions.
