380 households in Nueva Colonia, Turbo, Antioquia, now have dignified housing and access to safe water thanks to Juntos por Urabá
15 December 2025- Since 2024, 380 home improvements have been delivered out of the 1,000 planned under Juntos por Urabá, along with 580 water filters out of the 1,300 targeted by the program.
- These improvements, focused primarily on floors and kitchens, have a direct impact on families’ quality of life by visibly improving living spaces and reducing the risk of illness by eliminating parasites, bacteria and viruses commonly found in dirt floors.
- Alongside the delivery of the filters, Grupo Argos Foundation conducts ongoing water-quality monitoring and follow-up processes, which have confirmed that beneficiary families reduce by up to COP 300,000 per month their expenses related to purchasing water, and cut by 85% illnesses associated with its consumption.
- Juntos por Urabá is an initiative mobilizing more than COP 150 billion and bringing together over 20 public and private partners to deliver a comprehensive social-infrastructure intervention.
Grupo Argos Foundation is advancing the transformation of Nueva Colonia, in the municipality of Turbo, by delivering 380 home improvements, all equipped with safe drinking-water filters, as part of the Juntos por Urabá program. This comprehensive intervention ensures not only more dignified housing, but also permanent access to safe water—an essential factor for families’ health and well-being.
“Through Juntos por Urabá, we continue closing gaps through infrastructure in a region full of opportunities. Access to safe water and dignified housing is the foundation for sustainable opportunities in the territory. By delivering these home improvements and water filters, we are taking a tangible step so that more families in Nueva Colonia can have adequate living spaces and safe water in their homes, significantly improving their quality of life.”
María Camila Villegas
Executive Director, Grupo Argos Foundation
The intervention in households in Nueva Colonia is carried out using the methodology of Cementos Argos’ Healthy Homes program, which includes key health-related infrastructure such as floors, bathrooms and kitchens. This reduces the risk of disease by eliminating transmission vectors such as parasites and bacteria, directly improving families’ health and well-being.
Juntos por Urabá aims to deliver improvements to 1,000 homes and 1,300 safe-water filters made of clay that require no energy sources, additional construction or chemical additives. In total, more than 4,000 people will benefit and have renovated homes that enhance their quality of life, marking the beginning of meaningful change in the region.
Juntos por Urabá has three lines of intervention focused on infrastructure that enables opportunities, including:
- Access to safe water and basic sanitation, through the construction of a sewer system via the “Works for Taxes” (Obras por Impuestos) mechanism, and the delivery of 1,300 water filters.
- Home improvement, through upgrades to 1,000 households including floors, bathrooms and kitchens.
- Educational and community infrastructure, including the construction of the high school level at Institución Educativa 29 de Noviembre, Parque Alegría, a sports center, and ecological corridors in the corregimiento.
