Medellin, April 1st, 2019. The specialized publication Latin Trade, in partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank, awarded Grupo Argos the 2019 Latin Trade Index Americas Sustainability award, for its good practices on environmental sustainability. Therefore, Grupo Argos has become the first Colombian company to obtain this award.
The selection process is based on the analysis and comparison of more than 180 environmental, social and corporate governance performance indicators of 7,000 companies that make up the Corporate Sustainability Index. This study is carried out by Thomson Reuters Environmental Social Governance research data (TRESG) and the Inter-American Development Bank.
This new recognition yet another one of the awards granted to Grupo Argos. The Company had been recognized for the second consecutive year as the most sustainable company in the world in the construction materials industry, according to the Dow Jones Global Sustainability Index. This ratifies the company as a worldwide benchmark for its best practices on social, environmental and economic matters.
The Grupo Argos business group was recognized for its environmental practices, among other reasons, for articulating clear guidelines with its subsidiaries (Cementos Argos, Celsia and Odinsa). Clear goals have been established for 2025, such as reducing 20 percent of CO2 emissions, and 50 percent of water consumption per million Colombian pesos. In terms of ecosystems, the organization is committed to taking care of 100 percent of the water supply sources that are relevant to the operation and that have been considered as high risk.
In addition, four other companies have been recognized in each of the categories: social innovation, corporate governance, development and multi-Latin. The prizes will be presented at a special ceremony to be held in Washington, D.C. on April 11.
